My Thing (by: Deborah)

I love to garden. I am a nurse who work long, long hours taking care of premature babies at a hospital. Which is a job with a lot of ups and downs. Very much like a roller coaster of emotion. Gardening is a lovely way to bring some calmness to my life and to literally stop and smell the flowers.

The greatness of Slowing down. (by: Mark - Atlanta, GA)

Friday, June 15th, 2007

Background: I have been a segway advocate since 2002. I was an independent/freelance film maker and DVD author from 2001 to 2004. And, since April 23, 2007, I have been the proud owner of a black Segway I2. At the time of this writing, I have traveled 343 miles on my segway. I do not own a car, and do not plan to own a car anytime in the foreseeable future. I live in Midtown Atlanta, Ga.
Praise: And, so what i want to say here is first, I applaud Josh and Hunter for making such an inspiring documentary about the perspective of Americans who are brave enough to slow down and take in the scenery, the perspectives, and the thoughts of others. It’s a great proof of how you can learn and gain great perspective on our country if you just slow down, which too few people do.
Thoughts: And so, that process, that drive to slow down and not get too wrapped up in going fast, working the 9-5 cubicle job, and caring only about making money and throwing away your dreams; that process is what I am trying to do with my life right now. It seems that I gave up a lot my dreams when I choose an engineering college over a Professional Photography school. I gave up my love of photography, video editing, and movie making to pursue a path of financial security. But that path of financial security has been fraught with stresses, disappointment, and at times, hopelessness to the extent that I just wonder where I would be right now if I had followed my creative dreams. I hope that I will not make the same mistake when I embark on my career…
hmm, that is all I want to share for now. Bravo Josh, Hunter, Gannon, and Alon for making such an inspiring Film.

Frogger (by: Anonymous)

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

I work for a hospital in the building across the street. My thing is playing frogger a few times a day in real life — trying to cross the street to get to a meeting or back to the office.

That’s why I’m here — If I can get an i2, at least people will slow down to look.

I love bicycling. I think it’s more fun than just walking or jogging for excercise. When u get tired u can always coast.

segway to fun and adventure (by: EVAN)

I admire the film concept, yet the time commitment to pull it off seems like it might a be a challenge for many.

My thing is hiking, and I would love to use a segway for a 20mile+ hike, if they will let me!

The Future… AltTrans (by: Brian - Columbia, MD)

My thing is definitely the use of Alternative modes of Transportation. I have owned a Segway PT similar to the ones used in the film for over 2 years now, have over 2000+ miles on it, and can attest to it’s durability. I also bike when weather permits (too hot and people don’t like me much, lol) and run my Prius in EV mode around town if I need to carry more than a PT can handle. I’m not an environmentalist by any means. I just can’t stand not using the right tool for the job! Logical thinking got me to consider the purchase of this machine. You meet people along the way that you normally wouldn’t encased in a steal cage (i.e. a car). Some people granted have a SEVERE misconception of PT’s, namely that I use them to ONLY cross the street and therefore am considered “lazy”. I use this device as a serious mode of transportation; to get across town - to replace my car for inner-city travel. You wouldn’t take away the washing machine or cars just because it makes life easier would you?

Angela’s thing: Saving the World (by: Angela - Denver, CO)

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

Well, actually just documentary photography - my thing is using my camera to shine a light on areas that don’t get much exposure; to make people aware of each other… because most of the time we are too “busy” to take notice.

What makes a great documentary film is when the director just lets an individual talk and tell their story; the person watching is able to connect with that individual, identifying something in that person with something inside themselves. My favorite was the potter.

Cheers and thank for making such a great film.

Do the right thing (by: Craig)

Thursday, June 14th, 2007

We are finally starting to recognize that the ‘right’ thing to do, is also the easy thing to do. It is right our environment, right for our county, for our health and our families health to live simple, travel light, travel far, travel together, and travel in mode safer for us and safer for our environment.
It is always going to be the movements, and motion like this movie has and can generate that will lead us into the future in the proper manner.
